Louis Clampitt, 82, of Monmouth, Iowa, died on Thursday, September 2, 2010, at the Crestridge Nursing Home in Maquoketa, Iowa.
A public graveside service and burial were held at 11 A.M., Thursday, September 9, 2010, at the South Mineral Cemetery, rural Onslow, Iowa. Visitation was from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M., Thursday, September 9, at Carson & Son Funeral and Cremation Services in Maquoketa.
Louis Clampitt was born December 23, 1927 in Olin, Iowa, to Steven E. and Lillie P. (Adams) Clampitt. He married Phyllis Brown on April 30, 1955 in Iowa City, Iowa.
Louis worked at Anamosa Silos as a general laborer, retiring after 24 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time in the outdoors.
Louis is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Monmouth; children, Connie (Don) Black of Maquoketa, Linda (Vernon) Peterkin of Clinton, MD, Diane Strode of Cedar Rapids, Kelly (Tom) Horst of Miles, Julie James of Russellville, TN, Kathy (Art) Elmegreen of Delmar, Russell Clampitt of Monmouth, and Roxanne (Ronnie) Ingram of Des Moines; fourteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Steward Clampitt of Maquoketa; and sisters, Hazel Warner of Hawaii, Dorothy Brady of Maquoketa, and Jane "June" Laughlin of Wyoming. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, five sisters and a granddaughter.
