Donald Leo Ellison, Sr., age 92, died Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at the Anamosa Care Center in Anamosa.
Service was at 11 a.m. Friday, July 26, at the Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa. Pastor Jim May officiated. Visitation began at 9:00 a.m. Friday morning at the funeral home. Internment was at the Riverside Cemetery in Anamosa.
Surviving are his wife Charlene; children Donald Jr., (Shyrl) of Wyoming, Richard (Renee) of Monticello, Harold of Anamosa, Darlene (Larry) Farrington of Anamosa, Diane (Marv) Aldrich of Cedar Rapids, Debra (Mike) Farber of Monticello, Dennis (Sonya) of Anamosa and Shane (Heather) of Morley; a brother Chub of Cedar Rapids; a sister Vivian of Cedar Rapids; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; five step-children Angie Harms of Olin, Julie (Donald) Paulsen of Olin, Anita (Keith) Fuhrmeister of Olin, William (Barb) Martin of Colorado and Jeanette (Jeff) Kleinmeyers of North Liberty; ten step-grandchildren and eleven step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Althea (1965); a daughter Maxine; three brothers George, Walter and Wilbur; sister Myrtle; granddaughter Lola and daughter-in-law Beverly.
Donald Leo Ellison, Sr., was born May 13, 1921 in Bertram, Iowa. He was the son of Orpha and Bertha (Coster) Ellison. After his wife Althea died in 1965 Donald and Charlene Holdren were united in marriage on October 28, 1972. Donald began farming at a young age and continued to farm until 1968 when he went to work for Wendling Quarries, Inc., until he retired in 1985. Donald will be missed dearly by those closest to him.
