Hon. John Tasker
April 5, 1814–July 13, 1894
Hon. John Tasker died at his home in this township last Friday morning July 13th, 1894. The funeral was held at his home Saturday afternoon, the Rev. Street of Monticello officiating and his remains were laid to rest in the Wyoming Cemetery. A very large congregation followed the remains to their last resting place. He served several terms as county supervisor and was elected to the state legislature from Jones County in 1872. He served with honor to himself and those he represented. He was instrumental in locating the penitentiary in Anamosa. His latter years were spent in honorable leisure on his home farm after the death of his wife with his son Thomas and wife. Mr. Tasker was a man who in his youth and prime was active, vigorous, and a good financier. He made many friends and died with the esteem of neighbors following him with his departure. Jones County loses an old settler and one of its most prominent citizens.
