Mathias William "Martin" Thomsen, 54, of Oxford Junction, died Monday, July 27, 2009, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House following a long battle with cancer.
Visitation was Thursday at 5 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 6 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oxford Junction, with the Rev. Gregory A. Steckel officiating. American Legion, Wapsi Post No. 473 conducted military services at Mayflower Cemetery, Oxford Junction.
Martin Thomsen began this world as Mathias William Thomsen, number five of nine surviving children of the late Arnold Leon Thomsen (died 1962) and Wilma Marjorie (Stowers) Thomsen (died 2007) of Oxford Junction, Iowa. He was born Jan. 23, 1955.
Martin served with the US Marines and was a member of the American Legion, Wapsi Post No. 473.
He is survived by his siblings, Arnella Comstock (Jerry) of Oxford Junction, Alesea Smith (Dale) of Ironton, OH; Maggie Schepers (Don) of Oxford Junction, Lloyd Thomsen (Ernestine) of Brundage, AL; Jon Thomsen of Oxford Junction, and Monica Thomsen (Todd Metsker) of DeKalb, Il. He is also survived by his Aunt Mary (Stowers) Wherry (Richard) of Oxford Junction, Aunt Amanda Thomsen Parmenter of Central City, Uncle Julius Thomsen of Center Junction; two nieces, nine nephews, one great niece and eight great nephews.
Martin was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Walter Hans Thomsen (in 1979) and infant siblings, Mary Lee (1947), Robert Leon (1948) and Joyce Lee (1949) Thomsen.
