Lyle Tompkins
September 11, 1950 – November 15, 2019
Lyle Tompkins, 69, of Clarence and formerly of Wyoming, passed away on November 15, 2019, after a courageous battle with cancer at St. Luke’s Hospice in Cedar Rapids.
His funeral service was held at Lahey and Dawson Funeral Home in Wyoming on Monday, November 18, 2019, at 7 p.m. A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. before the service.
Lyle was born on September 11, 1950, to Roy and Lillian (Gabel) Tompkins. He graduated from Midland High School in Wyoming in 1968 and attended Iowa State University for botany and bacteriology.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of forty-three years, Wendy Tompkins; daughter, Heather (Tony) Covington of Anamosa; sons, Roy Tompkins of Clarence and Karl “K. C.” Tompkins of Clarence; grandchildren, Makayla, Emily, William, Adelyn, Ali, Eddie, Nolan; soon-to-be one great-granddaughter; sisters, Cheryl Williams (Randy) of Troutville, Virginia, Mary (Bill) Mommsen of Elvira, Roanne (Mark) Willey of Center Junction, Beverley (Bob) Hickle of Blue Grass, Valerie (Steve) Wherry of Wyoming and Chauncey “Tommy” (Deb) Tompkins of Monmouth; brother-in-law, David Hickey; sisters-in-law, Carol Falco of Solon, Nancy (Terry) Wurster of Springville and Joyce (Ron) Berg of Claremore, Oklahoma; brothers-in-law, Lyle (Kellie) Johnston of Claremore, Oklahoma, and Jeff (JoLynn) Johnston of Warsaw, Kentucky; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Todd; grandparents Lyle and Bernice Tompkins and William and Mary Gabel; mother and father in-law, Karl and Meredith Johnston; and a sister-in-law, Karen Hickey.
