Aged Resident of Onslow Dies

Onslow—Feb 23—Newel Vassar, 81, died Wednesday morning at his home in Onslow. Mr. Vassar was one of the oldest residents of this community. Mr. Vassar enlisted in the Indian war, and was close by at the time of the Custer massacre in South Dakota.
Mr. Vassar is survived by one son, Charles, of Fort Madison and by his present wife, Jessie Tebo Vassar. His first wife, Menerva Edwards, died three years ago. Military services will be held from the Presbyterian church Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
