Tim joined the United States Army and attended Basic Training at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. From there he went to Aberdeen, Maryland and trained as a rifleman before being sent to Vietnam in the 5th Division.

Tim was also a member of the Anamosa Fire Department, serving as chief for two years. He was an active member of the Anamosa Jaycees, Anamosa American Legion, and the Anamosa VFW. Tim loved fishing trips to Minnesota with his family, tractor rides on his John Deere 2510d with all of his buddies, and spending time in his shop doing woodworking and welding projects. He also had a lifelong interest in steam locomotives. Tim will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
