Mildred Mira Wells Connelly
August 21, 1895–June 22, 1990
BRIGHTON—Mildred Mira Connelly, 94, died Friday morning, June 22, 1990, at Jefferson County Hospital after a brief illness.
Connelly was born August 21, 1895, near Olin, the daughter of Charles and Lottie Peck Wells, and was raised in the Jones County area. She married Amos R. Connelly on Nov. 12, 1913, in Nevada, Iowa. They farmed in Jasper and Jones Counties before coming to rural Brighton in 1939. They farmed in rural Brighton before moving to Pleasant Plain in 1945. Amos died June 21, 1958 (sic - June 20th on his gravestone). She lived in Nelson Nursing Home for the past two years.
Connelly was a member of Brighton Methodist Church and also attended Pleasant Plains (sic - Plain) Friends Church, Brighton Church of God and Brighton Baptist Church. She was a member of WCTU, USFM and Friends Ladies Sewing Circle.
Surviving are one son, Gerald of Anamosa; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Stanley of Fairfield; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, three brothers, five sisters and three grandchildren.
The service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton with the Rev. Clarence Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Plain Friends Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the activity fund at Nelson Nursing Home. Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
