Loyd H. Westphal, 79, of Onslow, Iowa, died Saturday, August 15, 2009, at Hallmark Care Center in Mt. Vernon, Iowa.
A celebration of his life service was held on Thursday, August 20, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion American Lutheran Church, Wyoming, with Pastor Bob Wessels officiating. Burial was in the Wyoming Cemetery, Wyoming, Iowa, with military honors. Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lahey Funeral Home in Wyoming.
Loyd H. Westphal was born September 2, 1929 in Monticello, Iowa, the son of Herbert Marvin and Emily Annabelle (Eggers) Westphal. He graduated from Onslow High School in 1947 and then attended Iowa State University.
He served in the U. S. Army from September 18, 1951 to August 24, 1953. He farmed most of his life and worked for Adolph Coors Brewery in Golden, Colorado for 10 years.
Loyd was a member of the Zion American Lutheran Church, Wyoming; American Legion Post #259, and in earlier years, a member of the Masonic Lodge of Onslow.
He is survived by his five children, Kenneth (Sheilah Holland) Westphal of Anamosa, Kirk (Cheryl) Westphal of Wyoming, Michael (Cindy) Westphal of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Brian (Elda) Westphal of Lisbon and Jeffery (Karen) Westphal of Chicago, Illinois; 17 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nancy Chaplin of Louisville, Kentucky and Carol (Robert) Streeper of Marion; and one brother, Richard (Elaine) Westphal of Waterloo.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
