Peter Frederick Westphal

Peter F. Westphal, 82, of Wyoming, Iowa, died Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2012, at Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming, with Rev. Ginger Anderson officiating. Friends called from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Lahey Funeral Home in Wyoming.
Burial was in the Wyoming Cemetery, Wyoming, Iowa, with military honors accorded by the American Legion Wyoming Post #259. The family honored his request and his body was cremated following his services.
Peter Frederick Westphal was born on September 25, 1929 in Anamosa, Iowa, the son of Clara Frederick and Amanda (Paulsen) Westphal. He graduated from Wyoming High School in 1949. Peter married Joyce Gray on April 25, 1958 in Anamosa, Iowa.
He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War, serving in Panama.
Peter farmed in Jones County for many years. He also drove truck and worked road construction.
He was a member of the Zion American Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post #259 in Wyoming.
Peter is survived by his wife, Joyce Westpahl of Wyoming; two children Doug (Cindy) Westphal of Wyoming, and Lou Ann (Mark) McWilliams of Anamosa; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
