Donald E. Wright, 71, of Wyoming, died Friday evening, January 29, 2010, at his home.
A celebration of his life was held on Wednesday, February 3, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at the Wyoming United Methodist Church in Wyoming, with Shepherd Karmen Jamison officiating. Family and friends called from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lahey Funeral & Cremation Services in Wyoming. Burial was held in the Wyoming Cemetery, Wyoming, Iowa.
Donald Everett Wright was born February 3, 1938 on a farm in Jones County, northeast of Olin, Iowa, to Willard Lewis and Sarah (Morris) Wright. He attended his first three years of schooling at Coggon, three years at country school west of Anamosa and graduated from Wyoming High School in 1956.
He married Shirley Jean Eden on December 7, 1958 at Sinclair Memorial Presbyterian Church, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Don farmed the first six years northeast of Olin, and 19 years west of Wyoming. He drove school bus for Midland School from 1980 through 1994, worked for Dave's Plumbing from 1990 through 1993, and retired in 1994 due to his health.
Don was a member of the Wyoming United Methodist Church, and was a Boy Scout leader and 4-H leader when Tim was a Boy Scout and in 4-H. He enjoyed camping and fishing and spending time with family and grandson Alex.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Shirley Wright, a son, Tim Wright, a daughter, Kathy (Doug) McCloy, and one grandson, Alex Wright, all of Wyoming; two step-grandchildren, Michelle McCloy of Maquoketa and Christopher McCloy of Monticello; two sisters Dorothy Denison of Lisbon and Gladys Wright of Anamosa; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mildred Luckstedt, two brothers, Louis and Raymond Wright, a sister-in-law, Bella Wright, two brothers-in-law, Walter Denison and Clarence Luckstedt, and two nieces, Betty Walstrom and Judie Ortgies.
