Robert Young
March 29, 1832 – February 8, 1901
Mr. Robert Young a respected citizen of Monticello, died at his home last Friday morning, February 8th, aged 68 years, 10 months and 9 days.
Eight days before his death he was taken suddenly ill with brain trouble, and it was then thought that he could not survive the day. He returned to consciousness however, and appeared to rally until death quietly and peacefully closed his eyes. Mr. Young had been in poor health since 1899. At that time, while driving in the country he met with a serious accident which came near proving fatal. He was able to be about his duties thereafter, but never regained a firm hold on health.
Mr. Young was an excellent citizen, a man of firm convictions, yet not insistent in expressing them to people who differed from him. He was born March 29, 1832, in Craigie parish, Clunie, county of Perth, Scotland. He was married at the age of twenty to Miss Eliza Farquarson, and removed the year after to Canada, where he resided seventeen years.
His wife died September 29, 1868, and in 1870 he came to Monticello with his two sons, Robert and David, where his brothers had preceded him. After coming to Monticollo, he established the Monticello Bakery, which has been operated for about thirty years by himself and his son Robert.
In 1875, Mr. Young was married to Miss Sarah E. Brentnall, who survives him after twenty-six years of married life. Mr. Young was a consistent and faithful member of the Congregational church of Monticello, and for a numbor of years had served the church in the office of deacon, which position he held at the time of his death. He was particularly interested in the building of the now church, and contributed as liberally for its erection as his means would allow.
The funeral services were, conducted at the Congregational church, last Sunday morning, by the pastor, Rev. C. C. Warner. Interment was had in Oakwood cemetery.
