Fred Zimmerman, 75, for many years a resident of Jones county, died Saturday morning at 1 o'clock at the John McDonald hospital. He had been in failing health for some time. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 o'clock at St. Matthew's Lutheran church from the Goettsch funeral home. Interment was made at Oakwood cemetery.
Zimmerman was a son of Henry and Johanna Zimmerman, a native of Germany, having been born there July 3, 1868. He came to this country with his family in 1872, settling at Monticello. He grew to manhood in Castle Grove township and attended nearby rural schools. He was married to Mary Tobiason at Zion Lutheran church in Wayne township February 12, 1891. The ceremony was performed by Rev. C. Mardorf. He died on his 53rd wedding anniversary. Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Zimmerman lived on a farm in Castle Grove township for two years before moving to Wayne township where they made their home until they retired to Monticello in January, 1930, where they settled in a home on North Sycamore street.
Mr. and Mrs. Zimmerman were the parents of four daughters, Mrs. Thomas Faust, Clara and Freda Zimmerman, and Mrs. Esther Hosford, all of Monticello. One son, Henry, was killed when he was nine years old. In addition to his widow and daughters, Zimmerman is survived by two grandchildren, Sgt. Frederick Faust of Boise, Idaho, and Ronald Hosford of Monticello. Mr. Zimmerman also has one sister, Mrs. Gesena Clark of Twin Falls, Idaho.
