Robert Dott
Born September 9, 1824
ROBERT DOTT, Auditor of Jones Co., Anamosa; is a native of Scotland and was born September 9, 1824. He grew up to manhood there, and came to Canada in 1844, and remained five years, then came to Illinois. He first came to Iowa in 1854, and came to Jones Co. in February, 1856, and located permanently and entered a store. After the breaking-out of the war, he enlisted in Co. H, 14th I.V.I. He was in the battles of Fort Donelson and Shiloh. He was taken prisoner at the battle of Shiloh, and was taken to Montgomery, Ala., and to Macon, Ga., and held over six months. He was elected Mayor in 1857, the first Mayor of Anamosa. He has held that office four terms. He held the office of Justice of the Peace for twelve years. In the fall of 1875, he was elected Auditor of Jones Co., and was re-elected in 1877, and is again nominated for the same office for a third term. In April, 1857, Mr. Dott was united in marriage to Miss Sarah J . Peters, of Fulton Co., N.Y.; they have three children—Richard M. (attending school at Ann Arbor), Robert T. and George M.
