The cemetery property is described as: NE1/4 of NW1/4 Sect.23 TWP 86N R3W, Commencing at a point on the NE line of said tract 60 Rods west of the NE corner, thence south 361/2 degrees west 14 rods; Thence West 10 Rods; thence North to the north line of said tract; thence to point of beginning. It was sold by George W. Trumbull and his wife to the Township of Monticello, and signed 20 September 1862.

Steve writes: "This is leaning up against a stump in East Monticello cemetery. It looks like Joseph died in 1862, age 14 years and the rest I can't make out. Not on your cemetery list." Looks to me like it may say "14 years eight months and 13 days." See Joseph L. White Photos: Steve Hanken
Luther (Luke)Vandermark196123 Jun 1917Monticello Express (June 28, 1917) "The funeral of Luke Vandermark was held at the family home in Monticello, last Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. A. P. Walton. He died at the state hospital for the insane, at Independence, on the 23rd inst., and his body was brought to Monticello, Monday evening. Interment was had at the East Monticello cemetery. The deceased was born in Ulster county, New York, in 1861, and was therefore 56 years of age at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, five children, four brothers and three sisters. His children are William of Storm Lake; Arthur and Clifford, of Pasadena, California; Leona and Loretta of this city."
