I've "rescued" two old photographs belonging to the NILES Family. The first is a photograph of Lyman NILES which was taken at the J. W. Miller Studio
in Mechanicsville, Iowa. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1860s or 1870s with Lyman appearing to be in his 60s at the time. In addition to his name, someone has also written "father of Chas, second husband of Aunt Fannie" on the back of the photograph.
The second photograph is identified as Mrs. Lyman NILES and was taken at the same studio and probably at the same time as the first photograph. Mrs. NILES would appear to be in her 60s as well at the time the photograph was taken. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding this family: Lyman C. NILES b. 1813 in NY, first married before 1838 Mary S. and together they had a son Charles NILES b. 1838 in NY. His 2nd marriage was to Fannie, sometime before 1880. He died in 1881 and is buried in Anamosa, IA. Census records provide the following information: 1860 census of Madison, IA:
1870 census of Anamosa, IA:
1880 census of Anamosa, IA:
I am hoping to locate someone from this NILES Family so that these wonderful old photographs can be returned to their family. If you are a member of this family or you know someone who might be, please contact me. |
