Daniel J. Meade

DANIEL J. MEADE, the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Meade, of Oxford Mills, was born at that place, where he has spent all his life with the exception of the past five months spent in the service of his country. He was one of the nineteen boys to leave this city and report at Anamosa July 25th, all of whom were sent to Camp Gordon, Atlanta, Ga. His longing to be of service to his country prompted him to make the best of the time engaged in training, therefore only a little over a month was spent at this camp and he was transferred to one of the embarkation stations, from where he departed overseas about the first of September. He was in the highest of spirits knowing that he was nearing the fields of action, but the ceasing of hostilities found him located in England, where he still remained when the last letter was received by the mother, whose picture we were unable to secure. No doubt he will be returned to this country very soon and mustered out of the service. Dan, who had reached his twenty-sixth birthday, although a resident of Oxford Mills, is one of our soldier boys, and will be welcomed as such in this city.
