Ernest Schwab

ERNEST SCHWAB, the son of Mrs. Ellen Schwab, who passed away in 1892, twenty-six years ago, was called in the July draft, reporting at Anamosa the 25th and was immediately sent to the southern training
camp at Atlanta, Georgia. What training he received was accomplished at this place in a very short time as his company was moved to Camp Merritt, N. J., about the middle of September, from where after a brief rest they were sent overseas. Through some error relatives here did not receive an official announcement of his safe arrival overseas and they were worried considerable. Finally a letter was received from him stating that he had made a safe voyage and was at that time in England. From all information obtainable he never reached France, but rather expected to be sent home shortly, being a member of the division which had not entirely completed their training. Ernest was born in Story county and with the family moved to this vicinity when but a child, and has since made his home at this place. As stated above the mother passed away many years ago and we were unable to obtain a photograph.
