Vernon Robert “Bob” Aldrich
January 2, 1958 – September 28, 2018
Vernon Robert “Bob” Aldrich, 60, of Langworthy, formerly of Amber, passed away on Friday, September 28, 2018, after a courageous battle with lymphoma. A Celebration of Life was held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, October 1, 2018, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion.
To honor Bob’s memory, the family requested that family and friends wear their “Fighting For Bob” shirts or anything John Deere green. Inurnment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello, at a later date.
Bob was born January 2, 1958, in Monticello, the son of Vernon and Violet (Meyer) Aldrich. He graduated from Anamosa High School in 1977. Bob began farming with his parents in Amber at the age of 15 and continued that until his early 40’s when he started working at Kromminga Motors in Monticello.
On November 25, 1994, in Monticello, Bob was united in marriage to Cathy Weber. He was an outdoorsman who loved to fish, ride his motorcycle, dirt bike races, and anything John Deere. Bob enjoyed spending time in his garden raising a variety of vegetables, but he especially enjoyed all aspects of sweet corn, from planting, harvesting, freezing and eating it. Bob’s greatest joy was spending time with close family, especially Aiden and Kiley who called him “Papa.”
He is survived by his loving wife, Cathy Weber Aldrich; daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Michael Bieber; two adored and spoiled grandchildren, Aiden and Kiley; three sisters, Verna (Jim) Bietz, Judy (Dick) Rundel, and Naomi Soppe; as well as Cathy’s siblings; Ryan and Michael; many nieces and nephews; and Betsy.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Arlene Bleadorn and brother-in-law, Kevin Kramer.
