Mildred Arthur Wessels

Mildred Wessels, age 92, of Anamosa died Monday, September 8, 2008 at the Anamosa Care Center following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 Friday morning, September 12, 2008 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Anamosa with interment in the Riverside Cemetery. Rev. Bill Nielsen will officiate at the service. Friends may call from 4 until 8 Thursday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
Surviving is her husband of 73 years, William, a brother, Max (Irene) Arthur, Marion, two sisters, Gloria McCord and Bertha (Ray) Finn, both of Anamosa, and many nieces and nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, Harlan, Lester, Clifford, Charles and Gene, three sisters, Clara Dayhoff, Ann Louise Baumann and Pauline Brunscheen.
Mildred Emogene Arthur was born January 21, 1916 at Anamosa, Iowa. She was the daughter of Charles and Sophia Anderson Arthur. Mildred graduated with the class of 1935 from the Anamosa High School. Mildred E. Arthur and William H. Wessels were married June 29, 1935 at Dubuque, Iowa.
The couple lived in Center Junction, Iowa where Bill operated a portable milling service and Wessels Feed, a Cargill Feed Dealership. In 1968 the couple moved to Anamosa with Bill retiring from the feed business several years later.
Mildred was a long time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Anamosa. She was a beautiful seamstress but also enjoyed fishing and trapping with Bill. She will be missed by her family and friends.
