Howard J. "Pete" Barto, 91, of Maquoketa, formerly of Oxford Junction, Iowa, died Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at Jackson County Regional Health Center, Maquoketa.
A celebration of his life service will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Lahey Funeral Home in Oxford Junction, where friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the service time.
Burial will be in the Mayflower Cemetery, Oxford Junction, Iowa, with military honors accorded by the Oxford Junction American Legion Wapsie Post #473.
Howard J. Barto was born April 30, 1919, in Oxford Junction, Iowa, to Joe J. and Julia J. (Beranek) Barto. He graduated from Oxford Junction High School. He was a Sergeant in the U. S. Army, serving from 1942 to 1945.
Pete farmed all of his life. He was a member of the Oxford Junction American Legion Wapsie Post #473, served on the Oxford Junction Fire Department and the Oxford Junction Ambulance for twenty-five years. He was also a member and past president of the Mayflower Cemetery Board for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Fred Barto and his wife, Grace.
