Freda K. Behrends Schwartz

Freda K. Schwartz, 93, of Marion and formerly of Manchester, dies Monday evening, November 18, 2002 at Crestview Acres Care Center in Marion following a short illness. Funeral services 1:30 Thursday, November 21, 2002 at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa. The Rev. Jerry Egel will officiate at the service. Interment will be at Antioch Cemetery, rural Anamosa. Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. Thursday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa.
Freda K. Behrends was born February 1, 1909 on a ship coming over from Germany. She was the daughter of Ben and Margaret (Lubben) Behrends. Freda worked for Quaker Oats, Collins Radio, cooked for the Linn County Home, Loops Restaurant in Monticello, Logans Restaurant, Plantation Restaurant both in Manchester, the Manchester Golf Course, Meals on Wheels in Manchester, until the age of 78. She was a fantastic cook.
Survivors include one son, Raymond R. (Nina) McDonald of Cedar Rapids; a stepson, Wayne (Lois) Schawrtz of Anamosa; four grandchildren, Roger (Debra) McDonald of Cedar Rapids, Lonnie (Renee) McDonald of Vinton, Jay (Marge) McDonald of Shellsburg, Jackie Schawrtz of Coralville, four great-grandchildren, Amy McDonald, Michael McDonald, Chad McDonald, Kristina Sturgeon all of Cedar Rapids; three great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild, Shelby; two brothers, Herman Behrends of Monticello and Lavern Behrends of Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands, Raymond Washington McDonald, Elvin Schwartz and fifteen brothers and sisters.
