Gary L. Block, 63, of Oxford Junction, Iowa died Monday, February 18, 2013, at his home.
Funeral Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 21, 2013, at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa. Family and friends called from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Lahey Funeral Home. Burial was at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Maquoketa, with military honors. Lahey Funeral and Cremation Services in Maquoketa was in charge of arrangements.
Gary L. Block was born April 27, 1949, in Cascade, Iowa, to William and Stella (Brown) Block. On March 21, 2009, he was united in marriage to Joan James in DeWitt.
Gary was a senior software engineer at Rockwell Collins for ten years. He served in the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of the Cornerstone Assembly of God Church in DeWitt, the American Legion Wapsie Post #473 of Oxford Junction, and the Ham Radio Club in Anamosa.
He liked to do woodcarvings. He was an artist and painted murals in Oxford Junction. He also enjoyed poetry, song writing, and playing the guitar.
Gary is survived by his wife, Joan Block of Oxford Junction; three children, Shane (Heidi Jo) Block of Cedar Rapids, Wade Block and Jeremy Block of Oxford Junction; three step-children, Tonya Seaberg of DeWitt, and Robin and Brandie Seaberg of Oxford Junction; five grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, three brothers; Dick (Linda) Block of Lost Nation, Chuck (Darlene) Block and Eugene (Diane) Block of Maquoketa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
