Donald L. "Bus" Bodkin, 83, of Olin, Iowa, died Thursday, December 24, 2009, at home.
Private family graveside services and burial were held on Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at 11:30 a.m. at the Antioch Cemetery, Anamosa, Iowa, with military honors by the Olin Blayney Miner Ahrendsen American Legion Post 412. Pastor Pat Slater Officiated.
Lahey Funeral & Cremation Services in Olin was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be given to the Olin Hose, Olin Ambulance or the Blayney Miner Ahrendsen American Legion.
Donald Lee Bodkin was born July 1, 1926, at Olin, Iowa, son of Harry and Gladys Mae (Pieper) Bodkin. He attended Olin Consolidated School. He married Donna Mae Fall on February 14, 1951, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
He was a corporal in the U. S. Army in the 11th Airborne Division in Japan. He worked for Bodkin Ag-Lime in Olin for seventeen years, retiring in 1998. He also drove ready mix trucks for Stanwood, Clarence, Wyoming and Shomont Ready Mixes, and worked at Collins Radio for eight years, Lawson Grocery and Phillips 66 with his brother.
He was on the Olin Fire Department for twenty-seven years and was a Ham Radio operator. He was a member of the Olin Blayney Miner Ahrendsen American Legion Post 412. He enjoyed making model airplanes.
He is survived by his wife Donna Bodkin of Olin; three children, Sue (Clif) Fuhrmeister of Olin, Brenda (Irv) Graver of Anamosa and Brent (Lori) Bodkin of Bettendorf; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one brother, Daryl "Red" (Norma) Bodkin and a sister-in-law, Gloria Bodkin, both of Olin; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Jack.
