John Boner
1873–March 10, 1930
John Boner, a life time resident of Monticello and vicinity, died last week at the age of 56 years, after a long illness. He was born in Richland township, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Boner, who were natives of Switzerland. Mr. Boner was married to Hettie Whiting about 25 years ago, but they were separated a short time after their marriage. He had no children, but is survived by two brothers, Henry Boner of Monticello and Jacob Boner of Cedar Rapids. The funeral services were conducted last week Thursday afternoon at the Hayes undertaking parlors by Rev. Armin Tendrick, pastor of the Reformed Church. Interment was made at East Monticello cemetery.

Note: John Boner was not the son of Mr. & Mrs. Henry Boner—he was the son of John and Ida Wilhelm Boner. This is shown clearly in the census records and John's death record lists his mother's maiden name as Wilhelm. Also, his parents moved to Monticello township several years before his birth.
