In early life he had a desire to become a pharmacist, and so strong was this desire that he took some training as an apprentice in the drug store at Onslow, which greatly aided him a little later when he entered the school of, pharmacy at Iowa City, completing his course in a comparitively short time. On his return to Onslow, he began his business career at this place as a full-fledged druggist.

In March; 1893:he sold his drug business, in Onslow, and later purchased a drug.Store in Cedar Rapids, where the family removed,. remaining there until 1895, when he sold out and removed to Parnell, Iowa to engage in the same line of business.
Feeling the necessity of a change of vocation, he thought he would try the farm life, in an endeavor to regain his physical vigor and strength. So in the fall of 1899 her sold his interesdts in Parnell and returned to Onslow residing on the farm farm of his father in law northeast of town for about- a year and a half, then moved to his own farm west of town in 1901.
Here the family resided until March, 1910, when they went to Wall, South Dakota, thinking and hoping that the climate conditions might, be of benenfit to his health, but their hopes were not realized for in six months thereafter they returned to Onslow, and have since resided here. All effort to cure the physical ailments of the deceased on the part of the physicians and loved ones were in vain, and on Monday afternoon, March 6th, at 1:00 o'clock, in the presence of those who did all that love and service could render amid the anxious, waiting moments of time, he passed away from the pains, aches, and worries of this life into the Great Beyond.
He leaves to mourn his loss, his now bereft companion (who for more than twenty years was faithful and devoted to the every interest of that of her husband's) and his two sons who will miss the wise counsels and tender carae of a loving father. His mother and sister Jessie residing in Onslow, three brothers: Forest at Byron, Neb; Prairie of Garnett Kansas; and Carlton of Chicago, Ills mourn that loss of one whom they loved, and whose memory they cherish. Friends and neighbors mourn the loss of one who was an honorable citizen, kind friend, and honest in all business transactions.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal church in Onslow on Wednesday afternoon, March 8th, conducted by the pastor, Rev. M. L. Hill, assisted by Rev. S. B. McClelland, after which the remains were laid to rest in the South Mineral cemetery. M. L. H.
