Fred B. Bunting
December 9, 1916–March 19, 2009
Fred B. Bunting, 92, a longtime Jones County farmer, died Thursday evening March 19, 2009, at Linn Manor Care Center following a brief illness.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday March 23, 2009 at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, rural Monticello with interment in the Wayne Zion Cemetery. The Rev. Jonathan Kosec officiated at the services. Friends called from 3 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.
Alfred Benhardt Bunting was born on December 9, 1916, in Scotch Grove Township, the son of Gerd D. and Antke Marie (Wolken) Bunting. He was a lifelong member of Wayne Zion, being baptized on February 14, 1917 and confirmed on March 20, 1932.
Fred and Josie Schoop were married on March 27, 1940, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Anamosa. They farmed in Jones County all of their married life except for 2 1/2 years. In March of 1949 they moved to the Margaret Jensen farm west of Wyoming, living there for 60 years.
Survivors include three children, Glenn (Betty) Bunting, Brandon, MS., Bonnie (Edward) Kraus, Cedar Rapids, Marlin (Vickie) Bunting, Iowa City; six grandchildren, Kristie Bunting, Lakewood, Co., Michael Bunting, Flowood, MS., Kimberly Kraus, Minneapolis, MN., Kory Kraus, Cape Girardeau, MO., Ryan and Christopher Bunting, Iowa City; great-granddaughter, Caymen Bunting, Flowood, MS; and one brother, Rhinehart Bunting, Marion.
Fred was preceded in death by his wife Josie who passed away on January 20, 2009, his parents and nine brothers Ben, Ed, Gerd, Harm, John, Martin Enno, Elvie and Lavern.
Fred was a loving husband and father who dedicated his life to his family, hard work and his love of the outdoors and wildlife. He will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.
