Samuel Bye

Anamosa, January 10—Samuel Bye, age 95, one of Jones county's oldest pioneers, died early today, at the home of his son, George F. Bye, editor of the Anamosa Eureka. Mr. Bye lived in Anamosa for ten years, before that time being a resident of Springville where he settled when he came from the east in 1882. He was born in Chester county, Pennsylvania, in 1833. He enlisted for Civil War duty and served with Company E, 175th Pennsulvania infantry, Mr. Bye was a carriage maker by trade, but engaged in the meat business in Springville. The funeral will be held at the Loder chapel here Saturday at 2 pm and burial will be in the Springville Cemetery.
