Duane Carnes

Duane Carnes, 64, of Olin, Iowa, died Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
A celebration of his life service was held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 10, 2010, at Lahey Funeral Home in Olin. Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lahey Funeral Home in Olin. Burial was in the Green Center Cemetery, Morley, Iowa.
Duane was born on May 23, 1946, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Earl Edward Carnes and Helen (Randolph) Carnes.
He graduated in 1964 from Ottumwa High School. He married Sarah Brodersen on March 29, 1985, in Olin, Iowa.
Duane farmed and was a correctional officer for twenty years, retiring in 2002. He also drove truck for Crop Production Services in Wyoming.
He had belonged to the Olin Jaycees in earlier years. He had fond memories of Lake Delhi with his family and vacationing in Mexico. He loved all sports, NASCAR, New York Yankees, and deep sea fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Carnes of Olin; his children and grandchildren, Robin (Brent) Morrow of Ottumwa, and Kevin and Whitney, Keith (Debbie) Tallman of Anamosa, and Jake (Ashley), Christopher, Abbie, Megan, Keegan and Ellie, Jeanette (Troy) Espe of Cedar Rapids and Macy Jane and Jake, Aaron (Terri) Tallman of Cascade, and Ethan, Ty and Layni; two sisters, Phyllis Luthi of Ottumwa and Joyce (Jim) Spicer of Des Moines; one brother, Mike Carnes of Ottumwa; and a special cousin, Greg Gerdes of Olin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Madison Tallman in 2001 and a grandson, Maxmillian Espe in 2006.
