Sister Irma Corcoran, BVM

Funeral services for Sister Irma Corcoran, BVM, 94, were Saturday, Feb. 23, 2000 at Marian Hall Chapel of Mt. Carmel Retirement Home in Dubuque. Sister Irma was born on Nov. 10, 1905, in Anamosa to Gus and Anna (Conmey) Corcoran. She entered the Sisters of Charity, BVM, on Sept. 8, 1927, from St. Patrick's Parish in Anamosa. She made her first profession of vows on Aug. 15, 1929 and made her final profession of vows on Aug. 15, 1935.
Sister Irma Corcoran was on the faculty of Mundelein College in Chicago from 1930-1972. A published poet and lecturer, she also was advisor for the college's literary publications. She held a doctorate degree from the Catholic University of America and was an archivist/historian at Oxford University and Haverstock Hill, England. She also was a staff member of the American Philosophical Society Library in Philadelphia, PA from 1974-1981.
She is survived by a second cousin, Larry Conmey of Anamosa.
