Gene Edward Darrow
May 21, 1934–August 19, 1966
A former Monticello resident, Gene Edward Darrow, 32, was killed in an auto accident at Mill Valley, California, early Monday morning. Funeral services will be held tomorrow (Friday) afternoon at First Presbyterian Church in Monticello with the Rev. John Benjamin Wild and the Rev. Kenneth Harden in charge. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery.
Gene Edward Darrow was born May 21, 1934, twin son of Harold and Sarah (Welch) Darrow, at Iowa City. He received his education from the Monticello and Oxford Junction schools, graduating from Oxford Junction high school in 1953.
After a year of college he enlisted in the U. S. Navy and served four years, after which he returned to the University of Iowa. He received his degree in 1962. He was employed at the Marion County, California, social welfare office.
Mr. Darrow is survived by his parents and three brothers, Duane of Hopkinton, Jerry R. of Mill Valley, California and Richard H., now serving with the U. S. Marines stationed at Okinawa. He is also survived by his maternal grandfather, William Welch of Monticello, and by four nieces and nephews.
