Mary Ellen Davidson Cross, 67, died Friday, September 15, 2017, at St. Luke’s Unity Point Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Anamosa, with interment in the Holy Cross Cemetery. The Rev. Fr. Scott Boone and Deacon Fred Cornwell officiated at the services. Friends called from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Monday, September 18, 2017 at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, where a parish Vigil Service was held at 7 p.m.
Surviving are two children, Tim (Shelley Canady) Cross and Kim Cross, both of Anamosa; a brother, Ed Davidson of Cedar Rapids; a sister Marjorie Eige of Glen Carbon, Illinois; a sister-in-law Mary Davidson of Marion and a brother-in-law Fred Cornwell of Ankeny. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James, and three siblings, Don Davidson, Sally Wolfe and Patricia Cornwell.
Mary Ellen Davidson was born June 9, 1950, in Cedar Rapids. She was the daughter of Marvin and Fannie (Holmes) Davidson. Mary Ellen graduated from LaSalle High School in 1968. She worked at Mercy Hospital as a nursing assistant. Mary Ellen and James Cross were married at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, on August 23, 1975. The couple lived in Anamosa where Mary Ellen worked for Advancement Services in Jones County. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
