Ruth Hannah Dirks Johnson

Ruth Johnson, 91, of Monticello, died Thursday, April 12, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2012, at S. S. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church, rural Monticello, with interment in Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello. Rev. Paul Finger will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.
She is survived by a son, Russell A. Johnson of Monticello; two daughters, Marlene (Jerry) Nagel and Laurie Johnson, both of Cedar Rapids; a daughter-in-law, Mae Johnson of Monticello; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert in 2003; a son, Donald in 2004; a granddaughter, Marcy Nagel; two sisters, Henrietta Harms and Esther Bohlken; and an infant brother.
Ruth H. Dirks was born May 6, 1920, in Wayne Township, Jones County, Iowa. She was the daughter of John G. and Anna (Zimmerman) Dirks. Ruth received her education in the Black Oak school in Wayne Township. Ruth was employed by the Reliance Shirt Factory in Anamosa for several years. On November 23, 1943, Ruth Dirks married Albert Johnson at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, Monticello. The couple farmed their entire career in the Monticello area. They retired from farming in 1983. The couple moved to Anamosa in 1997 where Albert preceded her in death in 2003. Ruth was a member of S.S. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church, and the ELCW. She was baptized at the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church and confirmed her faith there on April 19, 1935.
