Virgil “Louie” Dirks
July 17, 1930 – August 5, 2017
Virgil L. Dirks, 87, died Saturday, August 5, 2017, at the Anamosa Care Center following a brief illness.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 9, at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, with interment in the Riverside Cemetery with military honors. Friends called after 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Surviving are two children, Diane (James) Rust and Ronald (Sabrina) Dirks and a sister, Alice (Ed) Redmond. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Lawrence and Earl.
Virgil was born July 17, 1930, in Cass Township, Jones County. He was the son of John and Irene (Ireland) Dirks. He attended Fremont rural school. Virgil served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He returned home to Anamosa where he worked at the Stone City Quarry, Ed Sievers Grain Storage and Tyler and Downing Grocery.
