| Dennis Edward Doherty, 66, of Iowa City died on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Parkview Manor in Wellman, Iowa. A private graveside service was held at Olin Cemetery in Olin. Visitation was Monday at the Lahey Funeral Home in Olin from 5 to 7 P. M.
Dennis Edward Doherty was born on December 9, 1946 in Keokuk, Iowa. He was a 1965 graduate at Burlington High School, and received a Bachelor's of Arts degree. He graduated from the University of Iowa College of Nursing in 1973; as one of the first two men to graduate from the College of Nursing.
He married Barbara Jo Slater on August 7, 1971 at the Olin Methodist Church in Olin. Dennis worked on the Children's Psychiatric Unit at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics for seven years. He then worked at the Oakdale Medical and Classification Center for the Iowa Prison Systems, retiring in 2006. After his retirement he worked for three years as an education associate for the Iowa City Community School District until he was diagnosed with Dementia. He enjoyed doing home improvement projects, gardening, collecting sport cards and especially collecting and listening to music.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Barbara and their two children; Christopher Doherty of Tipton and Katherine (Jason) Sieren of Keota, and their children Carmen, Greta and Charlotte. One sister, Patricia (Tim) Classen of Umatilla, Oregon.
He enjoyed being part of the Jay and Rosemary Slater family.
