Samuel Guzzo

Samuel Guzzo, 91, of Wyoming passed away surrounded by family on Monday, January 1, 2018. Son of Sicilian immigrants Domenico Guzzo and Lena (Cusimano) Guzzo. Born in Streator, Illinois on June 6, 1926, Sam was a fifty-six year resident of Wyoming.
Visitation was held Thursday, January 4 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lahey Funeral Home in Wyoming. Funeral Mass was held Friday, January 5, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oxford Junction. Burial was held at the Wyoming Cemetery.
Sam was a proud World War II veteran where he served as a Second Class Gunner’s Mate on the destroyer U.S.S. Kline. His favorite memories include trips to see the Lawrence Welk show in Branson, Missouri, a trip to his parent’s hometown in Castledaccia, Sicily, Italy and his honor flight to Washington D.C.
Sam and Audrey Randolph were united in marriage on June 1, 1947 in Rock Island, Illinois. Together they were blessed with ten children: Ann Osterkamp, Rosemary Hiatt, Priscilla (Charlie) Christie, Audrey Biere, Susan (Bill) Koranda, Samuel (friend Carol Hunt) Guzzo, Loretta (Jim) Risner, Anthony Guzzo, Christine (Peter) Vickery, Maria (Dennis) Boots, nineteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, Domenico and Lena, his wife Audrey, brother Joseph, son-in-law Rick Biere, grandchildren Theresa Grant, Dana Biere Lipski and Christopher Maier. Survived by siblings Angeline (Don) Giammetta, Thomas Guzzo, sister-in-law Joan Guzzo, James (Sharon) Guzzo, Tina (Don) Sonneville, Ida Rummans and Domenic Guzzo (David Stanforth).
