Donald “Don” Hamilton
April 6, 1933 – May 10, 2016
Donald “Don” Hamilton, 83, of Cedar Rapids passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids with his family at his side.
His visitation was on Friday, May 13, 2016 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Lahey Funeral Home in Wyoming, Iowa. A private graveside service and burial was held at Wyoming Cemetery with Military Honors.
Don was born on April 6, 1933 in Maquoketa, Iowa to Dorothy Hamilton. He graduated from Wyoming High School. He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the United States Marines from 1951 to 1954 being honorably discharged in 1954. He was one of the first six drivers for CRST and went onto drive for Landstar. Don was a member of the American Legion and looked forward to attending Milestones in Cedar Rapids where he enjoyed visiting and made many friends. He enjoyed playing cards especially Euchre and going to the casino. He was an avid Tony Stewart NASCAR fan.
Those left to cherish his memories are his five children; Karmen Smith of Cedar Rapids, Steve Hamilton and Dan Hamilton both of Anamosa, Melody Thompson of Cedar Rapids, Doug (Sandy) Hamilton of Arizona, two sisters; Sandee Conley of Anamosa, Linda (Roger) Workman of Marion and three brothers; Thomas (Faye) Hamilton of Olin, Larry Hamilton of Cedar Rapids and Gener (Judy) Hamilton of Oskaloosa; four grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his mother Dorothy and two sisters; Yvonne Merrill and Janet Bodkin, a brother-in-law, Rich Conley, and nephew, Kenny Hamilton.
