| MONTICELLO—Fred A. Hanken, 87, died at John McDonald hospital Saturday, February 29, after being a patient there four days. Funeral services were held from St. John's Lutheran church, near Monticello, Wednesday afternoon with burial at St. John's cemetery. The Rev. C. C. Gutekunst officiated.
Born in Monticello February 11, 1876, he was the son of Wessel and Margaretha (Hayen) Hanken. He was raised in this area and spent his life farming. He was married to Anna M. Bohlken February 6, 1902 and she preceded him in death January 5, 1960. Two sons, Edward and William; one sister and five brothers also preceded him in death.
Survivors include two sons, Gerke H. and Elmer T., both of Monticello; two daughters, Mr. Henry (Berniece) Hayen of Scotch Grove ande Mrs. Donald (Emma) Pursell of Monticello; eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
