March 28, 1945 – April 21, 2017
Dennis L. “Denny” Hansen, 72, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Wyoming, passed away on April 21, 2017, at the Hallmark Care Center in Mount Vernon after a five-year battle with cancer. Per his wishes, his body has been donated for research to the Mayo Clinic. There will not be services at this time, but a celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon is helping his family with arrangements.
Surviving Denny are his sisters, Jan (Stewart) James of Martelle; brother Dr. Dean (Edee) Hansen of Frisco, Texas, sister-in-law, Lori Hansen of Albuquerque, New Mexico; nieces, Deann, and LaShawn; and nephews, Kevin, Kent, Eric, and Layton.
Born March 28, 1945, to Otto and Laura (Bahnsen) Hansen, Denny was a smart and caring man. He served the Air Force from 1963 – 1967 and was selected to go on the Honor Flight this April 25. When his health began to fail, he gave up his seat so another could be afforded this honor.
He enjoyed writing, taking scenic pictures around Cedar Rapids, and having visits with family, long-time friends, and special friends he met at Milestone and Linwood Apartments. Denny also loved riding his bike or scooter, affectionately known as his “Cadillac” at Linwood.
Denny was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Wayne and Robert "Bob." and his grandparents.
The family wants to thank the staff and Dr. Nabi at Hall-Perrine Center, Hospice of Mercy Staff, and Hallmark Care Center Staff for the good care Denny received.
