Esther Shirley Hanson Rickels
May 30, 1932 – August 22, 2018
Esther S. Rickels, 86, of Oxford Junction, and formerly of Baldwin, passed away on Wednesday morning, August 22, 2018, at Mechanicsville Specialty Care in Mechanicville. A celebration of Esther’s life was held at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 25, 2018, at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Visitation was held prior to the service from 9 a.m. until service time on Saturday. Burial was at the Monmouth Cemetery.
Esther Shirley Hanson was born on May 30, 1932, in Jackson County to Robert Willis and Neoma Lueille (Hardin) Hanson. Ester married Earl Campbell, and they farmed in the Fulton area. Later she married Jack Schwenker, and they lived in Baldwin. She had worked retail at Schublin’s and Disney’s Shoe Barn in Maquoketa. In her later years, she married Dean Rickels. They lived their retirement years in Oxford Junction. She enjoyed gardening and loved her yard.
Those left to honor Esther’s memory include her children, Allen Campbell of Andrew, Bill (Christy) Campbell of Oxford Junction and John (Sherry) Campbell of Maquoketa; nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; a brother, Richard “Dick” (Janet) Hanson of Maquoketa; and a sister, Mary (Sam) Caven of Baldwin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dean Rickels; a brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Ellen Hanson; sister-in-law, Lois Hanson; and two grandchildren, Taylor Jo Crist and Zach Campbell.
