Augustus Leonard Hart

Obituary.

Augustus Leonard Hart was born in Rockbridge county, Virginia, February 13, 1831. When four years of age he moved with his parents to Ohio, from thence to Indiana and Illinois. In the year 1846 he walked and drove cattle from Illinois to Iowa and settled near his old home in Buffalo township, Linn county, where be endured the many hardships of pioneer life.
He was married November 2, 1856, to Cynthia A. Martin of the same place. To this union were born three children Elizabeth, Emily and Rosella, all having preceded him to the better world, except Rosella, with whom he spent his last days.
When a child he was received with tbe M.E. church, never losing his faith in God. When asked by a friend if be was still trusting in tbe Lord, be smilingly answered that be was. Friends often coming to sing to him would ask his favorite hymn, to which he would respond by repeating tbe hymn, "When I can rend my title clear."
After tbe death of his wife Nov. 7, 1894, he remained on tbe farm for two years, then came to Viola to care for his mother. After her death be spent tbe remainder of his life with his daughter.
Mr. Hart has been an invalid for a number of years, confined to his home for over two years and to his bed for a few weeks. He had a sunny disposition, living an honest, upright life. Even though a great sufferer be was never known to utter even one complaining word. As tbe sun was sinking in the west April 23d, 1914, he went to his long home, leaving his only daughter and granddaughter, Mrs. Rosella Corbett and Alma, with many other relatives and friends.
Tbe funeral was held at the home in Viola, Iowa, April 25, conducted by Rev. Cass, pastor of tbe M.E. church of that place.
