Dennis Hogan
March 19, 1820 – December 7, 1893
Mr. Dennis Hogan, father of Sheriff Hogan, died at his home in Castle Grove, last Thursday morning, :aged 73 years. The funeral was held on Saturday, Mr. W. A. Hogan and his sister of Anamosa, being in attendance at the last sad rites of their beloved father. The older Hogan located in Castle Grove in the early fifties, entering a portion of the land which made up his real estate of over 500 acres. He was a man fine education and general information, and in pioneer times was often called upon by school teachers to solve problems in advanced mathematics. In his chosen avocation of farming he was very successful, and while he leaves to wife and children a valuable estate without the encumbrance of a dollar, the memory of his good name is prized by them more than the riches of this world.
