Lola June Horstmann Barner
June 24, 1932 – October 28, 2017
Lola June Barner passed peacefully at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Saturday, October 28, 2017.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 2, 2017, at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, where friends may call from 4 – 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 1. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello. Pastor Gary Novak will officiate at the services.
Lola June Horstmann was born June 24, 1932, in Toronto, the daughter of Walter Horstmann and Mabel (Scott) Horstmann. Lola graduated in 1950 from Lost Nation High School. She attended Mount Saint Clair College, Clinton, and graduated in 1952 with a two-year teaching certificate. She was a sixth grade teacher in Clarence and later was a substitute teacher in nearby towns. She married Creighton Barner in 1954 and had five children. She lived in rural Martelle before moving to Anamosa.
Lola is survived by her five children, Brenda Brokens (Eric), Bret (Carol), Becky, Bonita Howe (Dan), and Barton (Laura); her ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild that were the light of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Daryl Horstmann; sister-in-law, Muriel Horstmann; sister, Beulah Gade; brother-in-law, Herbert Gade; brother-in-law, Keith Russell; sister-in-law Susan Horstmann; and her special long-time companion and friend, Roy Null.
Lola will be missed by her children; grandchildren; her sister, Dorothy Russell; her brother, Harold Horstmann; and a wonderful staff at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
