Lois Arlene Huffman Somerville Ridout
August 29, 1926 – October 18, 2016
Lois Somerville Ridout, age 90, died Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa, following a brief illness.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 Friday morning, October 21 at the United Methodist Church, Anamosa with interment in the Wyoming Cemetery. Friends called after 9:30 at the church. Rev. Marty Schumacher officiated at the services. Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa was in charge of services.
Surviving are three children; Kevin Somerville of Oxford, Keith (Joni) Somerville of Wyoming and Kay (Al) Strother of Anamosa; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two sisters, Jean Sievers, Anamosa, and Leah Oppedahl, Story City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, Robert Somerville and Clayton Ridout, her son Kenney, and a daughter-in-law, Mary.
Lois Arlene Huffman was born August 29, 1926 in Anamosa, Iowa. She was the daughter of James and Bessie (Wyrick) Huffman. Lois graduated from the Wyoming Community Schools in 1943. She married Robert Somerville on August 10, 1947 in Wyoming, Iowa. He preceded her in death on July 2, 1987. Lois was employed at Youthtown and Mickie’s Model Shop in Anamosa. She married Clayton Ridout May 16, 1990. He preceded her in death in 2002.
Lois was a member of the Anamosa United Methodist Church, and the Hospital Auxiliary. She was very family oriented. She was the Queen of Sarcasm. Her sarcastic quips did not stop at the hospital until she was unable to talk.
