Phyllis Jean Jerome Johnston
January 19, 1934 – March 13, 2018
Phyllis Jean Johnston, 84, of Anamosa, went home to her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness.
Memorial services were held at 12 p.m., Saturday, March 17, 2018, at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, with Rev. Susan Schneider-Adams officiating. Burial took place in Riverside Cemetery, Anamosa. The family greeted friends from 10 a.m. through the time of service.
Phyllis Jean Jerome was born January 19, 1934, in rural Coggon, the daughter of Harvey and Bessie (Brady) Jerome. She attended school in Central City.
She was a very giving person, wonderful homemaker and also worked as a home health aid for the elderly from 1986 until her retirement in 2002.
Phyllis was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Anamosa. She enjoyed working with the elderly, loved gardening and flowers, taking pictures, and spending time with her family. She was an avid reader and loved her cats and dogs. She had a great memory, always remembering to send out greeting cards for the many birthday and holidays.
She is survived by her children, Harvey (Diana) DeSotel, Anamosa, Charles King, Howard (Eileen) Johnston, Anamosa and William (Lori) Johnston, Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Robert, Josh, Patrick, Dennis, Brandy, James, Crystal, Jennifer, Jason, Tonya, Charlie, Zachary, Kelly, Holly, Kristin, Emily, Joanie, Cody, Tyler and Logan; many great-grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren; a sister, Marcella (Richard) Fleming, Olin; and by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Howard Johnston in 1985, a son, Frank DeSotel; a daughter, Kathy Lucas; a granddaughter, Terry DeSotel; brothers, Robert and Don; and a sister, Lois Wulfekuhle.
