Betty L. Kernen Petersen
September 12, 1928 – April 10, 2018
Betty L. Petersen, 89, passed away peacefully at Anamosa Care Center on April 10, 2018, after an extended illness.
Betty’s wishes were for cremation, so there will be no service. Keeping with Betty’s wishes for cremation; a private family graveside service will be held at a later date. Cedar Memorial is in charge of honoring her wishes.
Betty Peterson was born September 12, `928, to Nellie and Adolph Kernen, Monticello. She married Lloyd Petersen, July 1, 1950. They lived in Monticello, Stanwood and Wyoming before settling in Anamosa. She worked in the local hospitals and care centers as a certified nursing assistant for many years. She was also a manager at both Nestlewood and Laredo apartments in Anamosa. She loved fishing, gardening and watching birds on her many feeders placed near her window.
Betty is survived by her son Brad (Janet) of North Liberty; daughter Kathy Larrimore of Anamosa; six grandchildren, David Petersen, Kim (Herb) Snow, Mark (Melanie) Petersen, Kristen (Joe) Wilford, Robert, and Jack Larrimore; seven great-grandchildren, Kourtney, Kepler, Mayah Petersen, Dominic Larrimore, Haley Larrimore, Trevor Petersen, Cameron Petersen and Lilly Jean Snow; and her sister, Rose Oltmanns, Anamosa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd, in 2013; her parents, Adolph and Nellie Kernen; her brother, Ray; two younger sisters; and son-in-law, Rick Larrimore.
Her family wants to thank Dallas and Casi and all of her caregivers at Woodland Park and Anamosa Care Center, as well as Above and Beyond Hospice Care, her palliative nurses, Dr. Kirk Kilburg, and Jones Regional Medical Center.
