Bernice Lausten Grothenhuis
May 10, 1921–March 3, 2013
Bernice L. Grothenhuis, 91 of Marshall, Illinois, peacefully passed away into eternity Sunday, March 3, 2013, at the home of her daughter in Monticello, Iowa.
Funeral Services were held Thursday morning, March 7, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church, Monticello, conducted by Pastor Al Polito. Burial was at Cedar Memorial, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include the father of her children Stanton Grothenhuis of Green City, Missouri, four children, Audrey (David) Savage of Monticello, Nancy (Glenn) Frederick of Cape Coral, Florida, Beverly (David) Liebenow of Kimberling City, Missouri, and Shad Te Grothenhuis of Marshall, Illinois; grandchildren Daniel (Danielle) Kumley, Matthew Kumley, Sarah (Bill) Jones, J. R., Eric, and Adam Frederick, Jay (Virginia) Liebenow, Jennifer (Luke) Vethe, Megan (Ryan) Peavler, Kelsie Gard, and Bill Gard; great grandchildren Mason Kumley and Raylan Peavler, and good friends Debbie Tutewiler and Dee Huber.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, Christian and Louise (Pego) Lausten, brothers Raymond and Donald Lausten, and granddaughter Rebecca Kumley.
Bernice was born on May 10, 1921 in Oakland, California. She and Stan were married August 16, 1942 in Reno, Nevada. She was a stay at home mom who in her later years worked at Casey State Bank, Casey, Illinois. She enjoyed doing word search puzzles, solitaire and double solitaire, as well as a number of other board games. Bernice was a dedicated member of Women's Club and Women's Auxiliary. She loved spending time with her family. She was a great cook and could (and did) mend everything.
