Leo R. Leesekamp
March 19, 1919 – May 26, 1999
Leo R. Leesekamp, 80, died Wednesday morning, May 26, 1999, in his home after a brief illness. Services: 1:30 p.m. Friday, Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, by the Rev. Billy Duay. Burial will be at a later date in Riverside Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to American Heart Association.
Leo was born March 19, 1919, in Anamosa, the son of Andrew and Nellie Day Leesekamp. He graduated from Anamosa High School in 1937 and went on to serve in the U.S. Army. On Feb. 2, 1940, Leo was united in marriage with Mary VanCleve at the United Methodist Church in Anamosa. Leo worked at Iowa Manufacturing from 1947 until his retirement in 1982. He was a former member of the Anamosa City Council and American Legion and was an EMT on the Anamosa Ambulance service.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; three sons, Raymond (Rosemary) and John, both of Anamosa, and Eddie (Lisa) of Denver, Colo.; seven daughters: Patricia Armstrong (George) of York, Neb., Lillian Levsen (Tom) of Olin, Margo (Gary) Long of Cedar Rapids, Jackie (Richard) Watkins of Alexandria, Va., Dorothy Leesekamp and fiance Gordon Long of Mulvane, Kan., Mary Beth (Roger) Griffith of Marion and Debbie (Bernie) Bolhken of East Moline, Ill.; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren and a sister, Beulah Kula.
