Melvin P. Leslie, 93, of Columbus, Indiana, formerly of Oxford Junction, Iowa, died Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at Silver Oaks in Columbus, Indiana.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, July 5, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Lahey Funeral Home in Oxford Junction, with the Rev. Jeffery Alexander officiating. Friends may call on Monday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Lahey Funeral Home in Oxford Junction. Burial will be in the Mayflower Cemetery in Oxford Junction, Iowa.
Melvin Preston Leslie was born on March 21, 1917 in Oxford Mills, Iowa, son of George W. and Beulah (Chapman) Leslie. He graduated from Oxford Junction High School in 1935 and graduated from Marycrest College in Davenport and received his Master's Degree at the University of Iowa.
On August 23, 1939, he married Mary Gladys Phillips in Oxford Mills, Iowa. She preceded him in death on September 26, 1988.
Melvin taught school for many years and was in ministry starting at Assembly of God Church in Maquoketa. He also worked in India as a Missionary. He retired from Simplex Time Recorder in December 1978.
Survivors are his daughter, Phyllis (Ralph) Alexander of Columbus, Indiana; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four sisters, Viola Flory and Mildred Clapp of Clinton, Marjory Brother of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania and Gertrude Zaruba of Maquoketa; and one brother, George (Eleanor) Leslie of Clinton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two sons, John and David, and two brothers, Allen and Roland.
