|Mary Alice Houston, 72, of Hale, died March 7, 2011 at the University of Iowa Hospitals following a long illness.
Surviving are her husband, Donald Houston, Sr.; sons Donald (Tracey) Houston, Jr., and Kenny Houston; grandsons Preston (Lori) Biggart, Daniel (Ruth) Houston and Jason Houston; and great grandchildren Sophie Houston and Elliot Biggart.
She was preceded in death by grandson Adam Houston in 2006.
Mary was born in Maquoketa on August 18, 1938. She was the daughter of Gary and Alice Liston and stepfather Frank Risden. She was married to Donald Houston, Sr., on July 18, 1959 in Camanche. They lived in Canton for seven years before moving to Hale in 1967.
Mary was on the Olin Volunteer Ambulance for 35 years, and a cub scout leader for three years. Her hobbies included watching her grandson race at Tipton, fishing and going to the dog track. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many.
A luncheon in her memory was held March 12 at the Hale Community Building.
